Benefits of Meditation

Imagery, meditation and the inner dog…

November 15, 2016 by Carol 7 Comments

What do imagery and meditation have to do with dogs?  I share my home and my office with 2 wonderful large dogs, who as I write this are lying in front of the woodstove, basking in the warmth and feeling safe and content. But I also have an inner dog, who lives deep in my brain, in that ancient mysterious part of the nervous system that we humans share with all mammals.

My inner dog has a lot in common with my two relaxed friends; it is protective of me and it wants me to be safe and happy. It can go from tail-wagging pleasure to a growl in a nanosecond. And it can’t tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined – whether a dangerous intruder is ringing my doorbell, or the ring is happening in the movie playing on my TV.

Giving It Over – Do I Really Have To Do It All Myself?

July 4, 2011 by Carol Leave a Comment

I just found a computer program that creates a fancy To Do list for me and I felt an immediate sense of relief. How much mental energy do we use just trying to remember all the myriad details of life? And how relaxing it is to stop keeping track and give it over to someone or something else?

Giving it over is a powerful concept; acknowledging that we can’t and don’t have to do it all, that something else is there to the burden off of our shoulders. Any process of connecting to our higher self, to spirit, God, a higher power – whether in meditation, contemplation, prayer, dance, chanting, Yoga, or your favorite mode is a way of giving over, and letting go of the illusion that we are in this alone and have to do everything ourselves.

How Do I Fit Meditation Into My Busy Life?

May 31, 2011 by Carol 1 Comment

The question I hear most frequently is “how do I find time to meditate? I’m stressed enough already, trying to find time to meditate is even more stressful!” Life seems busier, more rushed, more full of stuff to do every year. So how do we find extra time to do the things that will, theoretically, make us feel calmer, more relaxed, more centered?

It used to be with meditation, the longer the better. Now, in the age of tweeting, texting and shortening attention spans, people want something short and sweet. And actually, I think that’s just fine…

We are no longer in the days of retiring to a mountaintop to contemplate the Universe.

Self-Help Giveaway!

June 12, 2010 by Carol Leave a Comment

Empowerment, and helping you find the skills, tools and philosophies that allow you to help yourself is fundamental to the work that I do. I was recently invited to contribute to Dr. Joe Rubino’s new Self-Help Giveaway. You may remember Dr. Rubino from my interview with him last fall on my “Profound Paths to Health, Healing and Happiness”  teleseminar series, when we talked about his brilliant work with self-esteem. I think his book, The Self-Esteem Book: The Ultimate Guide to Boost the Most Underrated Ingredient for Success and Happiness in Life is a remarkable piece of work. Well, toward that end Joe has created an impressive event that just opened, and features hundreds of free ebooks and audio and video courses in the self-help and self improvement fields.

Free gifts include my guided imagery meditation mp3 “Breathe in Peace,” and a recording of a fantastic conversation I had when I opened the Fall 2009 series with Marci Shimoff, author of the bestseller “Happy for No Reason.” Hundreds of other cool gifts are available.

I invite you to check out huge array of tools for health and well-being. There is no catch, you will be offered some products for sale, just say no thanks, and proceed to the gift giveaway. The gifts cost nothing simply because this event is run with the aim of introducing you to products and vendors in the self-improvement field who you might never otherwise know about (like me!) I have already downloaded some very cool ebooks and invite you to check this out and of course, please download and enjoy my interview with Marci Shimoff and  “Breathe in Peace”!
