Imagery and imagination…

May 13, 2010 by Carol Leave a Comment

Imagery comes from the same root word as ”imagination,” and describes the way your mind and body communicate, through images, words, feelings or sensations. Like guided meditation, guided imagery can be facilitated by another person or guide, or guided by you yourself. In my work, I use guided imagery combined with meditation to create a relaxed, focused state in which your guided imagery can be more powerful and more effective.

The word “imagine” describes the ability to form images and ideas in the mind. Our creation of images is an innate, natural ability of all human beings. Often used interchangeably with the term “visualization,” the word “imagery” actually gives a more accurate sense of this mode. Where the word visualization implies that we are using our sight or vision, in fact, people have many different ways of imaging or imagining. Some people do experience visual images or pictures, like watching a movie, or like actually being in the movie and seeing what is around them. For others, imagery may take the form of physical sensation or feelings, a kinesthetic experience. Some people are more auditory, their hearing is the most dominant sense in imagery, for some it is a sense of smell. Others may experience a sense of “knowing,” in their mind, their heart, or in their whole being that transcends the basic five senses. Which sense is most powerful for you?

what is guided meditation?

May 8, 2010 by Carol Leave a Comment

Guided meditation is a process by which a guide or teacher leads you into meditation. An effective teacher can teach you a simple pathway to a meditative state, as well as help you experience being in that state. Once you have experienced what it feels like to be in the natural state of meditation, and learned the path to it, it is easy for you to take yourself there.Meditation shouldn’t be hard, it’s a natural state for humans. But a lot of people become frustrated and discouraged trying to learn meditation on their own. It may be because they are using techniques that just aren’t right for them, and/or have inadequate guidance. Being guided into the experience of a meditative state, with a guided meditation CD or mp3 is an easy way to eliminate those problems.

Meditation is, most simply, the process of re-connecting our mind, emotions, and body with our spirit. The basic purpose of meditation is to bring us back to our center, where we are in communication with our higher/deeper/inner self, and with spirit. There are many ways to meditate, and cultures all over the world have used meditation in many different forms- sitting, walking, movement. There is no single right way to meditate; we each need to find the form that works best for us.

The flu, fear and reality

January 28, 2010 by Carol Leave a Comment

My teleseminar series, “Profound Paths to Health, Healing and Happiness” is dedicated to empowering you to create your own path to health. To this end, I am writing to you today to empower you with some information about taking care of yourself and your family’s health this winter, and to dis-empower some of the myths and lies that are flying around in this climate of fear about the swine flu and seasonal flu.

As a Clinical Nutritionist and Chiropractor, I have a lot of clients with concerns about the flu, and even more about the flu vaccines. Here is what I share with my clients. You are welcome to pass this along to your friends and family.

Self-Esteem: do I deserve to be happy?

September 24, 2009 by Carol Leave a Comment

We started with ‘what is happiness?’ for this season of the “Profound Paths to Health, Healing and Happiness” teleseminar series, but then I thought it was important to go back a step. So my second speaker was Dr. Joe Rubino talking about self esteem, what he calls “the most under-rated ingredient for success and happiness in life.” Understanding our self-esteem and how it has been compromised or damaged through our lives helps us clearly see what blocks us from our full potential, our full joy. Am I worthy of health, healing and happiness; do I deserve to be happy?

It is fascinating to look back at the messages we got, what we internalized, and especially the stories we have told ourselves and made into our creed.  Humans take “what happens” and make stories about what it means. It’s what we do, in our search for meaning, and we all do it very well! But then we are stuck with living out of a story made by a 5 year old or 3 year old or even a teenager!

There are many ways to find these old stories and clear and heal them. I love the way Joe Rubino guides people through this process, I find it simple and clear and empowering. If you think old stories and messages are holding you back from the health and happiness you deserve, or if you question whether you even deserve them, look more deeply into your self esteem. You can find new possibilities, new freedom in this healing process.

You can check out Joe Rubino’s book and get a free copy of “Seven Steps to Soaring Self-Esteem” at The Self-Esteem Book

Yours in Peace, Carol

Marci Shimoff on Happiness

September 13, 2009 by Carol Leave a Comment

Marci Shimoff is the opening speaker this Tuesday when the fall 2009 series of “Profound Paths to Health, Healing and Happiness” teleseminar series begins. Her book “Happy for No Reason” is a beautifully crafted piece of work; insightful, empowering and full of simple tools to shift your perspective on life and happiness. Marci and I spoke about our mutual philosophy that there is no one right way, no one perfect path to happiness, health or anything else! We share a belief in the uniqueness of each person, and the importance of finding the path that is right for you.

We bring all these different teachers and practitioners together in this series in the hopes that each of you will find someone or something that resonates, that gives you that “yes, I can do that, that feels right to me” feeling. In her book, she offers a multitude of tools and ideas with the same intent. I hope you enjoy our conversation, and find at least one thing that says “YES!” in your heart. Check back here for more thoughts, and feel free to share your feedback and ideas as well.

Yours in Happiness, Carol

EFT in the Rockies…

August 1, 2009 by Carol Leave a Comment

I am enjoying a remarkable four day retreat with EFT Masters Rue Hass and Gwyneth Moss in the foothills of the Rocky mountains. If you were listening to the Profound Paths series last fall, you will remember the beautiful EFT work Rue did on one of our calls. What an experience to be learning from these brilliant teachers in this peaceful and beautiful retreat setting.

One of my commitments in the teleseminar series, is bringing you more profound and practical learning about the amazing potential of these meridian tapping energy therapies. The more I learn about the depths of EFT work, the more possibilities I see…

Today, working with Gwyneth I had a new insight about imagery.

I have always explained it as “the language the body and the mind use to communicate.” But it is really more the messenger between body and mind, or as Gwyneth calls it, “the interpreter.” The body expresses non-verbally through the imagination, through images; they can be visual, kinesthetic, auditory, or any other kind of sensing. The messenger image then gives the information to the thinking mind. An amazing system!

It’s very helpful to understand how your system images. Are you visual, auditory, do you sense through physical sensation, smells, tastes, or just a sense of ‘knowing?’ Explore your imagination and your own unique ‘messenger system.’ Let me know what you discover.

Living in Your Body

July 19, 2009 by Carol

a holistic healer’s unique perspective

on life, healing and inner peace…

~ Carol Robin’s blog

I named my blog “Living In Your Body” because we are here, on Earth, in these amazing and frustrating physical forms with no owner’s manual, no training wheels and no reset button. My intent is to share with you my experience, knowledge, intuition and the wisdom of both ancient and modern teachings to be of service to you on your journey.

I believe our most important job right now, is to learn how to live in our bodies. To learn how to live a balanced life on a wobbly planet with inflammation and viruses and climate change, and still remember how to laugh and love and have inner peace, and remember that we are not alone… ~ Carol

Welcome to My Blog!

July 16, 2009 by Carol Leave a Comment

Welcome to my new blog. I envision this blog as a way to go into more depth about a variety of topics in health and healing. My passion is drawing on all the diverse philosophies and tools I have studied to help people find their own unique path to health and healing. My favorite tools are energy medicine, guided imagery meditation, EFT and meridian tapping, gentle bodywork and nutritional counseling. In this blog, and in all my work I explore all levels of our being – body, heart, mind and spirit. How these interconnect, how we explore our full humanity is a source of great fascination to me.

My free weekly teleseminar, “Profound Paths to Health, Healing and Happiness” is returning Sept. 15th, 2009 for our 3rd season. In it, I have in-depth conversations with some of the most innovative and visionary teachers and practitioners in health and healing. People who’s work incorporates an understanding of, and an orientation to body, heart, mind and spirit. I am really excited about our line-up of speakers and will be sharing more about them. I’d love to hear about your interests; who and what you’d like to learn about, and get your feedback on previous speakers and topics.

Please feel free to come back whenever you like, or leave me a comment.

Yours in Peace,

Carol
